What to keep in mind when making a filter coffee

Filter coffee, especially pour-over methods such as V-60 and areopress requires attention to details. I’m here to ensure every cup of filter coffee you make from North Andes Coffee beans will be hella of a cup. Read and follow these tips and you are good to go.

    1) Make the filter wet before brewing: Just put hot water on it. This step will make the filter clean and crispy to your freshly grounded beans, making everything hot and stable. don’t forget to discard the water before actually making the coffee.

    2) Grind to perfection: Grind size is key here. Filter coffee needs a medium grind, the coffee should have the same texture of coarse sea salt. Make sure to grind the coffee just before you brew the coffee.

    3) Master the water-to-coffee ratio: The right ratio of water to coffee is essential for achieving the perfect filter coffee. A standard recommendation is a 1:16 ratio – 1 gram of coffee for every 16 grams of water. However, feel free to experiment and adjust the ratio to suit your personal taste preferences. Using a scale to measure both the coffee grounds and water will help you maintain consistency and accuracy.

    4) Control water temperature and brew time: The water temperature and brewing time can significantly impact the taste of your filter coffee. Aim for a water temperature between 195°F (91°C) and 205°F (96°C) to ensure optimal extraction. When it comes to brew time, aim for a total extraction time of 3-4 minutes for pour-over methods like the Hario V60, and 4-6 minutes for classic drip filter machines. This will allow for a balanced and flavorful brew that showcases the distinct qualities of your chosen beans.

    Enjoy it!
